Job Title : Day Lead

Shift : Monday through Friday; 7:00AM - 3:30PM
Reports To : Regional Manager
Pay : $18/hour
As the Day Lead Custodian , you will play a key role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming school environment. Your leadership and attention to detail will ensure the school is prepared for daily activities and special events. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation throughout the school building, including classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and other common areas. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of students, staff, and visitors. Employees will be moved to different school buildings during training, and by 90 days of employment, the employee should be assigned a school. The employee may still be moved to different schools after training due to business needs.
Key Responsibilities: - Sweep, mop, scrub, and vacuum floors in classrooms, hallways, bathrooms, and common areas
- Dust and wipe down furniture, windowsills, light fixtures, and other surfaces
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, including sinks, toilets, mirrors, and replenishing supplies (toilet paper, soap, etc.)
- Empty trash cans around the school and dispose of waste in a safe and proper manner
- Clean and disinfect high-touch areas such as door handles, light switches, and handrails
- Maintain cleanliness of entrance and exit areas, including sweeping walkways and removing debris
- Assist in cleaning windows, walls, and floors as needed
- Ensure cleaning supplies and chemicals are used in accordance with safety guidelines and company policies
- Report any maintenance or safety issues to the General Manager
- Follow all health and safety regulations, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Ensure the school is kept safe from hazards such as slippery floors or blocked exit routes
- Monitor and report supply levels to ensure adequate stock of cleaning products, paper goods, and equipment
- Restock supplies in restrooms, classrooms, and common areas
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of custodial storage areas
- Any other task requested by your supervisor or management
Day Lead Tasks :
- Conduct an inspection at the start of your shift to identify immediate cleaning needs and address any missed tasks from the night crew
- Lead snow and ice removal efforts to ensure safe walkways for students, staff, and visitors
- Wash and maintain the building’s cleaning materials, including rags and mop heads, to support ongoing cleanliness
- Monitor and replenish supplies for the Night Crew, ensuring they have the necessary materials to complete their tasks efficiently
- Communicate needs for events with the Night Lead for specific event set ups and cleaning needs
- Assist ZCS Managers and ZCS staff with any additional tasks requested and within our work scope
Special Cleaning Tasks :
- Deep clean carpets and upholstery as needed or as per the school’s cleaning schedule
- Assist with periodic floor waxing and buffing
- Perform seasonal cleaning tasks, including removing snow or debris around entrances or playgrounds (if applicable)
- Assist with event setups, cleanups, and post-event sanitization as requested
Qualifications: - Experience :
- Previous custodial or janitorial experience is preferred but not required
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team
- Skills :
- Ability to communicate in both English and Spanish is preferred; however, this is not a requirement for the role.
- Ability to work efficiently and prioritize tasks
- Strong attention to detail and cleanliness
- Ability to lift and move objects up to 50 lbs
- Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safety procedures
- Physical Requirements :
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods
- Ability to work in a variety of environments, including indoors and outdoors (weather permitting)
- Capable of using cleaning equipment such as vacuums, buffers, and floor scrubbers
- Other Requirements :
- Reliable transportation to and from the job site
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening (if required by the client)
- Must be punctual, dependable, and maintain a positive attitude.
Working Conditions: - Schedule : This position requires flexibility to align with the school’s operating hours. While exact work hours may vary based on the school’s schedule and specific needs, you must be available to adjust to a morning shift (7:00 AM - 3:30 PM) during the school vacation periods. These include one week for spring break, two months for summer break, one week for fall break, and two weeks for winter break.
- Environment : The role involves cleaning various areas within the school building, including classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, and common areas. Some outdoor work may be required.
- Uniform : Company shirts and any required PPE (personal protective equipment) will be provided. Additional Marquis shirts/sweatshirts will be available for purchase at an additional cost.
- Training : On-the-job training will be provided to ensure proper use of cleaning equipment and chemicals.
